Supported Independent Living
SIL accommodations under the NDIS help participants who require help or supervision with daily tasks to live independently. The planning process involves assessing the participant's needs, developing a support plan, finding an approved provider, and obtaining funding approval. Participants can access a range of housing options, and it's important to involve NDIS coordinators and providers early in the planning process.
Short-Term Accommodation
Short Term Accommodation (STA) is a respite option for NDIS participants and their carers, providing overnight and weekend accommodation, and opportunities for new experiences. STA funding covers expenses for up to 30 days (often less) and can be accessed through an NDIS plan if deemed necessary to achieve goals.
Medium Term Accommodation
Medium Term Accommodation (MTA) under the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) provides temporary housing for participants who are waiting for their permanent home to become available. It can be funded for up to 90 days and covers only the accommodation cost. MTA is not a long-term accommodation option and is intended for specific transitional periods.
Shared Accommodation
The NDIS provides funding and support for participants wishing to live in shared accommodation, including assistance with daily living, accommodation and tenancy obligations, home modifications, and assistive technology. The participant's NDIS plan outlines their specific supports, and it's important to work with NDIS planners or LACs to ensure their living arrangement aligns with their goals and needs.
